Warlord Games US Army HQ Winter 28mm Bolt Action Wargaming figures

Warlord Games, US Army HQ (Winter), 28mm Bolt Action Wargaming figures

Warlord Games, US Army HQ (Winter), 28mm Bolt Action Wargaming figures - When the russian armies failed to collapse, the wehrmacht found itself caught out on the russian plains, freezing, literally in many cases, to death. . Gloves, mittens and thick felt boots blankets and scarves all meant that the landser might not only survive the bitter winters of the 1940s, but also be able to fight and win. Germany’s aggressive campaigns of conquest ensured that her armies would fight in many countries far from the fatherland and in starkly contrasting terrain and weather conditions. Clever use of white or reversible camouflage clothing and snow hoods helped to keep out the cold and hide the troops in featureless terrain. Gradually german industry caught up to correct the defects in winter clothing and the troops and their families even fashioned suitable winter gear to keep general frost at bay. German soldiers were well-equipped for their venture into europe, and later north africa, but found themselves ill-prepared for the bleak, freezing and unforgiving eastern front.

Warlord Games, Caesarian Roman Cavalry, Hail Caesar Wargaming Miniatures

Warlord Games, Caesarian Roman Cavalry, Hail Caesar Wargaming Miniatures - These included cavalry units from greece and thrace, as well as those from further afield in anatolia and syria. The horsemen of the later roman republic were unlikely to be roman at all. Although far from numerous, cavalry played a decisive part in many battles of the period, including at the battle of pharsalus when pompeyÕs cavalry drove away caesarÕs numerically inferior horsemen, only to fall into disorder when caesar brought his infantry reserves forward to counter the milling mass of riders. The ensuing rout carried the pompeian army with it Ð and that is why today we say, Ôhail caesarÕ and not Ôhail pompeyÕ. Caesar famously recruited his cavalry from among the gauls and germans that he fought and allied with during his campaigns of conquest. During the civil war, pompey raised a huge army from his strongholds in the eastern provinces. Roman cavalry were equipped along much the same lines as auxiliary infantry, with iron mail armour, bronze helmets, and a mix of stout spears and light javelins they could throw. They also carried an oval shield similar to that borne by the auxiliary infantry.

Firelock Storming Party - Pike And Shotte - Warlord Games

Firelock Storming Party – Pike And Shotte – Warlord Games

Firelock Storming Party – Pike And Shotte – Warlord Games - Formed originally to fight in the wild bogs of ireland where a flintlock was more easily handled than the clumsy matchlock, firelock-armed musketeers grew more common as the civil wars progressed, all armies sometimes fielding large units so armed. Firelock companies were raised throughout the civil wars for a variety of purposes. The firelock had numerous advantages over the older matchlock. It was also much cheaper in the long run as they did not consume vast quantities of match cord. The scots covenanter forces also used the firelock to good effect. Parliament issued them liberally and many of the new model army had whole companies so armed and later, whole regiments. It was ready to fire at a moment’s notice, was more weatherproof and did not betray a night advance with glowing match cord. Warlord games’ firelocks are shown storming a bridge led by their dashing captain, just the sort of action that firelock companies were used for. For the royalists, legge’s who fought at edgehill, rupert’s and maurice’s redcoats and sandford’s from ireland. They were regularly used for baggage and artillery guards, as the flintlock mechanism was seen as infinitely more desirable in a gunpowder depot than spluttering, lit, match cord by mid to late war, whole companies were fielded.
